Wicket-keeper batsman Mushfiqur Rahim was taken by Fortune Barishal for the 2024 Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) during the player’s draft on Sunday, September 24. With the event slated for January 2024, there’s much anticipation.

Previously, it was highlighted about the franchise swaps of Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal ahead of the draft, drawing keen attention to Mushfiqur. Sylhet Sixers, his former squad, didn’t retain him, leading him to remain unselected for direct signings. Rangpur Riders and Fortune Barishal, however, took Shakib and Tamim directly for the forthcoming season.

The spotlight remained on Mushfiqur, the sole Category A player with a TK 80 Lakh cap. Tamim seized the chance to draft him.

Rangpur Riders chose opener Rony Talukdar, who performed exceptionally in the previous BPL. Mominul Haque and Sabbir Rahman, however, went undrafted.

Salahuddin, Comilla Victorians’ head coach, voiced his confidence about retaining the title, highlighting the draft of Rahkeem Cornwall. He stated that Cornwall would provide balance to the squad.

A noteworthy trend was the selection of several Pakistani cricketers for the BPL. Some franchise heads are optimistic about their prolonged availability if the Pakistan Super League faces rescheduling due to the January elections.
